Franklin County dog shelter hosts Community Pet Supply Give Back & Care Day Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center is inviting residents to help make a difference for pets and the people who care for them during a combined Community Care and Community Pet Supply Give Back Day.

The event is being held at the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 4340 Tamarack Boulevard.

“Our goal is to remove barriers that may make it difficult for families to care for their pets,” Marketing and Community Relations for the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center, Erin Hamill said.

Sometimes something as simple as a bag of dog food, a leash, or a crate can help keep a beloved pet at home where they belong.

The Community Pet Supply Give Back Day will provide free pet supplies. The supplies are free of charge and available on a first come first serve basis.

Guest can find items like:

• Dog food and treats
• Collars, leashes and harnesses
• Toys and enrichment items
• Bowls, crates, bedding and other pet supplies
• Limited supplies for other household pets

The Community Care Day portion invites guest inside the shelter for a family-friendly volunteer opportunity.

Participants can read to shelter dogs, help with simple day-to-day shelter chores, create enrichment treats and toys for dogs in the shelter’s care, and spend time with the shelter animals. Children are welcome with a parent or guardian 18 years of age or older.

“These events are a reminder that caring for animals is truly a community effort. Every donation, every volunteer, and every family we can help makes a lasting impact for every dog, every day,” Hamill stated in a release.
