Humane Society of South Mississippi opens veterinary urgent care clinic

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is now accepting pets at its new veterinary urgent care clinic, offering an after-hours option for pet owners who need their animals examined promptly.

The clinic operates Wednesday through Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

Affordable pet care on the Coast

HSSM CEO Lori West said the organization identified a need for accessible pet health care on the Gulf Coast.

“We knew that there was a major need for affordable health care,” West said. “And we opened a wellness clinic in 2018. We weren’t really sure how busy we would be, but we thought there was a need. And our instincts were absolutely correct. So, we’re expecting that the urgent care will also be a well-utilized service.”

West said the team hopes to expand urgent care hours in the future.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi is located at 2615 25th Ave. in Gulfport.
