Revival Animal Health recalls feline milk replacers

ORANGE CITY, IOWA — Revival Animal Health recalled its Breeder’s Edge® and Shelter’s Choice® Feline Milk Replacers due to low levels of potassium, copper, folic acid, choline and/or pyridoxine (vitamin B6). The recall builds on the company’s previous recall of its canine milk replacers earlier this year.

Recalled products were sold nationwide online and in retail pet stores. Products are packaged in multiple sizes of stand-up resealable bags and 12-oz jars.

The recall applies to the following lots of Shelter’s Choice Feline Milk Replacer:

• UPC code 817160011032 in a 1-lb bag with best buy dates of 10/31/2026, 4/23/2027, 5/01/2027, 5/20/2027, 6/25/2027, 2/05/2028 and 3/12/2028
• UPC code in a 3.5-lb bag with best buy dates 10/31/2026, 5/20/2027, 6/25/2027 and 8/06/2027
• UPC code 817160011063 in an 8-lb bag with best buy dates 9/09/2026, 10/31/2026, 5/20/2027, 6/25/2027, 8/06/2027 and 3/12/2028

It also applies to the following lots of Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Feline Milk Replacer:

• UPC code 817160010196 in a 12-oz jar with best dates of 9/09/2026, 4/16/2027, 4/18/2027, 6/25/2027, 8/06/2027 and 3/12/2028
• UPC code 817160011278 in an 18-lb bag with best buy dates of 9/09/2026, 4/23/2027, 5/01/2027, 5/20/2027, 6/25/2027, 8/06/2027, 11/14/2027 and 3/12/2028
• UPC code 817160010103 in a 4.5-lb bag with best buy dates of 4/18/2027 and 5/1/2027

After receiving third party test results suggesting a possible nutrient deficiency in one lot of a Feline Milk Replacer product, Revival conducted its own confirmatory testing on multiple lots. Those test results were analyzed by an independent animal nutritionist on Aug. 12 and led to Revival’s decision to conduct this voluntary recall due to third-party manufacturing inconsistencies resulting in low levels of potassium, copper, folic acid, choline and/or vitamin B6.

According to the FDA, kittens fed a milk replacer that is deficient in copper, potassium, vitamin B6, folic acid and choline face compounding, multi-system risks, such as anemia, neurological dysfunction, liver failure, kidney damage, skeletal diseases and cardiac compromise.

As of Aug. 26, no illnesses resulting from the use of these products have been confirmed, but Revival is investigating nine complaints of potential gastrointestinal and bone development issues.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to stop feeding immediately and contact Revival for a full refund.
