VetnCare Acquires Holistic Veterinary Care In Sixth Add-On Under Great Point Partners
VetnCare, a Northern California veterinary hospital group backed by Greenwich-based healthcare private equity firm Great Point Partners, has acquired Holistic Veterinary Care, an Oakland-based practice specializing in integrative and rehabilitative animal medicine. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal marks VetnCare’s sixth acquisition since Great Point Partners first invested in the company, and the first completed under CEO Matt Kirchner.
Founded in 2009, Holistic Veterinary Care has built a practice around combining Eastern healing traditions — including acupuncture and chiropractic care — with conventional veterinary medicine. Founder Dr. Gary Richter will stay on following the acquisition, transitioning into the role of Clinical Director while continuing to practice. The practice is based in Oakland, placing it within VetnCare’s existing Northern California geographic footprint.
VetnCare operates a community of veterinary hospitals offering a range of services including wellness care, surgery, imaging, urgent care, and specialty disciplines such as oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery, and exotic animal medicine. The company has more than doubled in size over the past three years through its acquisition strategy, which centers on preserving local clinical leadership while broadening the scope of services available across its network.
The addition of Holistic Veterinary Care extends that model into integrative and alternative medicine — a category VetnCare views as complementary to its existing hospital offerings. The strategic intent is to deepen the range of care options available to pet owners within the communities VetnCare serves, rather than simply adding locations.
Great Point Partners, founded in 2003, manages approximately $1.7 billion in capital across its private funds and public life sciences equity strategy. The firm invests exclusively in healthcare across the United States, Canada, and Europe, with a focus on growth equity and management buyout financing. It has backed more than 100 healthcare companies across its history.
